How to Tie a Eye Splice
Step 1
Unlay the last several inches of the rope end into its three individual strands, and whip or tape each strand tip so it doesn't unravel further.
Step 2
Form the size of loop you need, then lay the unlaid strands back against the standing part of the rope at the point where the eye closes.
Step 3
Tuck the middle strand under one adjacent strand of the standing rope, against the lay.
Step 4
Tuck the next strand under the following strand of the standing rope, and the last strand under the remaining one, so every original strand is now tucked once, evenly spaced around the rope.
Step 5
Repeat the same over-one, under-one tucking pattern for each strand three to four more times, pulling each tuck snug as you go.
Step 6
Roll and work the splice under your palms to even out the strand tension, trim the tails close, and whip or heat-seal the ends.
