How to Tie the Angler's Loop on a Bight
Step 1
Take a bight — a folded section in the middle of your line — at the point where you want the loop, with no need to reach either end.
Step 2
Start with a round turn in the bight, rather than the finger-turns opening you'd use from a rope end.
Step 3
Lead the large turn over the second turn and thread it through the first bight — the same lead-and-tuck that forms the standard Angler's Loop.
Step 4
Pull it taut to seat the finished loop, and check that the working part exits at roughly 90 degrees to the standing line.

Can you tie this knot around a post, ring or rail?
No — not with any method that's been published. The sequence needs the line loose in your hands to take the round turn and make the tuck, so it can't be worked onto something already fixed. If the object can't be threaded, use the Farmer's Loop instead — it's built to form around a post.
The back of my knot has a crossover — did I tie it wrong?
Not necessarily. Some tyers get a version with the strands running parallel and no crossover, and report it holds up fine either way. Judge the finished knot by two checks instead: the working part should exit at roughly 90 degrees from the standing line, and the loop should read like a bowline from one side and a figure-eight from the other.
Does the quick-release version slip under heavy load?
