How to Tie the Spiral Hitch Handle Wrap

Step 1

Tie a starting knot around the object to anchor the cord — a Clove Hitch for a temporary tie, or a Turk's-head if the wrap is meant to be permanent.

Step 2

Make a loop, or half hitch, on one side of the object. Always use the same side and direction for every hitch — a true spiral depends on it.

Step 3

Pass the working end behind the object and back through the loop you just formed. Pull the cord snug by tensioning both left and right so it seats evenly.

Step 4

Repeat continuously down the length of the object, pushing each finished hitch up snug against the previous one (fairing it up) so no bare handle shows through the gaps.

Step 5
