Usage
The Ezelius Hitch is an adjustable slide-and-grip hitch built for one problem: holding on stiff, slippery modern rope where the usual adjustable hitches let go. A Taut-Line Hitch does the job fine on ordinary line, but on stiff kernmantle or Dyneema it can slip — that gap is exactly what this hitch closes.
It grips by forcing the standing part into a curve instead of relying on surface friction: two turns are taken, the critical final turn goes over the standing loop instead of around the working end, and the working end is tucked through both and pulled snug. How to Tie the Ezelius Hitch
Step 1
Form a loop with the working end around the object you're tying to — or, for the grip-hitch form, around a separate host rope.
Step 2
Take one turn around, building on the standing part.
Step 3
Take a second turn, parallel to the first.
Step 4
Take the final turn OVER the standing loop — not around the working end. This is the step to get right: around the working end instead produces a look-alike that won't grip.
Step 5
Tuck the working end through the two turns, parallel to where it entered.
Step 6
Tighten by pulling the loop and the standing end together until you reach the friction you want. The finished shape reads as a "paragraph sign" (§).

Can I use the Ezelius Hitch for climbing?
No — not for anything life-critical. It's never been safety-tested, no safety body endorses it, and harness makers require a non-slipping figure-eight tie-in, not an adjustable hitch. Keep it to tensioning and load-securing jobs.
Why does it grip on slippery rope when a Taut-Line Hitch won't?
Because it grips with geometry instead of friction. It forces the standing part into a curve that pinches the rope around itself — also why it grips even better on soft, slick Dyneema than on stiff nylon.
Why does it slide when I tie it around something smooth and round?
That isn't the job it was built for. Its grip comes from pinching around a forced curve, and a smooth rigid pole gives it nothing to pinch. Use a Rolling Hitch for a smooth spar instead.
Can I tie it on a guy-line that already has tension on it?
Not easily — that's its most specific documented weakness. A Taut-Line Hitch handles a line already pulling; the Ezelius Hitch is harder to tie under tension. Tie it slack, then take up the tension with it.
