How to Tie the GT Knot

Step 1

Double over about 18 inches of braided mainline to form a long bight, or loop.

Step 2

Thread the doubled braid through the leader's tag-end eye, or lay it alongside about 12 inches of leader. Pinch both together where they overlap.

Step 3

Wrap the leader tag end around the doubled braid loop: 30–40 tight, closely spaced wraps, working away from the pinch point.

Step 4

Fold the remaining braid loop back over all the wraps just made.

Step 5

Make 15–20 additional wraps with the leader tag end over the folded braid loop and previous wraps, working back toward the start.

Step 6

Pass the leader tag end through the small remaining braid loop. Moisten thoroughly, then pull both standing lines slowly and steadily over 15–20 seconds to seat the wraps. Trim both tags close to the knot.
