How to Tie the Sheet Bend
Here's a step-by-step guide on tying the sheet bend.
Step 1:
Hold the larger diameter rope aloft in your left hand. With your right hand, take the free end of the rope and fold it back on itself, creating a bight.
Step 2:
Take your smaller diameter rope and slip it up through the back of the bight.
Step 3:
Wrap the smaller diameter rope around the underside.
Step 4:
Tuck the smaller diameter rope underneath itself.
Step 5:
Grab the loose ends and pull them outward to tighten.

Tighten it further by taking the main lines of the ropes and pulling them in opposite directions.
Tips When Using Ropes of Equal Diameter
If you're doing this with ropes of equal diameter, you're going to follow pretty much the same steps. Just remember these steps: Up and through, around, and then underneath itself. When you pull that knot tight, you're going to want to make sure that the two small loose ends are on the same side as each other.
